A.B. Graham Academy Family School Program

ABGA’s Family School program is a textbook based program similar to homeschooling. In fact, many homeschool families take advantage of this program. Parents work with the school to customize a program for each student. Students learn at home, with their parents as their primary teacher.     For information on curriculum please contact Kim O'Connor at oconnork@abga.cs.k12.oh.us

 How It Works

  • Parents and students meet with our director to discuss the program. If they are interested, applications are submitted (proof of residence, birth certificate, social security card, and shot records, if applicable, must be submitted at this point).

  • Parents submit their curriculum wish list. Each student may order up to $1000 worth of curriculum. All curriculum must be approved by the school. No Christian curriculum can be ordered or graded, but you may purchase it on your own and use it as you wish.

  • Middle school and high school students may elect to take 1 online course through Aventa. This course would count as $300 worth of your allowed $1000 of curriculum.

  • Once your list has been submitted, our curriculum advisor will check your order to make sure you’ve covered all subjects. If you have any questions about your curriculum choices, you may email our advisor anytime.

  • Orders will be placed July 1 and July 15 for returning families, July 15 and July 30 for new families. We will let you know when your curriculum is ready for pick-up. Please note that no curriculum will be mailed. It must be physically picked up.

  • Laptops will be available by request for family research.

  • On a pilot basis, students in good standing will be able to utilize the lab if seats are available.

  • There will be a group meeting with our academic advisor at the beginning of the school year to discuss portfolios, projects, and submission dates. At this time, sample portfolios and projects will be on display for your perusal.

  • Portfolios/projects must be submitted at midterm and end of quarter for grading by a highly qualified teacher. This works out to be about once a month, excluding the month of December. The school issues grade cards quarterly.

  • All students in K must take the K-Ral test. All students in 3-8 must take the OAA tests. All students 9-12 must pass the OGT test. These tests are mandatory and will be provided on-site.

  • At the end of the school year, all reusable items that you have finished with must be returned to the school. Any consumable items that you are no longer using but have used less than 3/4 of should also be returned.

  • All of our family school parents may access the curriculum library. Items from the library may be checked out for short-term perusal or for the entire school year.

  • Students are also eligible to participate in all enrichment activities provided by the school. In past years, these opportunities have included art, dance, baton, drama, STEM science club, Jr Great Books, Writer’s Workshop, Write it Right, manatee snorkel, and field trips. Gym usage may also be available.
